Day 1/ Thursday: Arrival in Hanoi – Tu Le (210 km ~7 hrs) (Lunch/Dinner)
As you land at Noi Bai International Airport, vietnamlocaladventures guide and driver will greet you, commencing the journey towards Nghia Lo town on the 32 highways. Traverse a mesmerizing mountainous terrain adorned with fertile hills blanketed in green tea plantations and lush mountains. The four-hour walk through a narrow, elongated valley unfolds encounters with various hill tribes, each showcasing unique traditional customs and lifestyles. The Thai community resides near valley footstreams, employing water wheels for rice terrace irrigation. The H’mong inhabit the highest elevations, cultivating corn and dry rice on burn-over lands, while the Dzao, situated in the middle, practice a combination of farming techniques, revealing a blend of influences from the Thai ethnic minority.
Upon reaching Tu Le town, a charming mountainous locale, the remaining hours of the day are dedicated to exploring the town, including the market area. After checking into the hotel, take a moment to unwind and wander around town before evening sets in. Dinner and overnight accommodation await at White Thai homestay in Tu Le.
Day 2/Friday: Tu Le – Mu Cang Chai – La Pan Tan (150 km ~ 5 hrs) (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Commence the day with breakfast in Tu Le before embarking on a journey to La Pan Tan. A one-hour road trip provides ample time to explore the surrounding area, immersing in the authentic mountainous life of local ethnic minorities. Engage in a four-hour trek along a trail connecting various villages, encountering diverse ethnic groups like White Thai, Black Dzao, and Red H’mong. Experience their warm hospitality as they invite you into their homes, offering tea or homemade wine. Following the exploration of Mu Cang Chai, drive to our homestay in La Pan Tan for an overnight stay.
Day 3/Saturday: La Pan Tan – Bac Ha – Ban Pho (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Rise early to relish the fresh morning air and the melody of birdsong. Enjoy breakfast at our local Hmong homestay, bid farewell to the homestay family, and set forth to Bac Ha. The day’s drive unfolds along an exhilarating road, ascending over the mountain pass to Mu Cang Chai, passing through H’mong, La Ha, and Dzao hill tribe communities. The road meanders along the mountain range, winding through tea plantations and rice terraces along the Nam Ma River. This scenic valley is dotted with Tay, Dzao, and H’mong hill tribe villages.
Arrive in Bac Ha around lunchtime, with the meal served at a local restaurant. Check into the hotel and take a moment to rest. In the afternoon, visit a village and the H’mong King Palace (King Hoang A Tuong), a structure built by the French and Chinese in 1920. After exploring the H’mong’s palace, venture to another village (Ban Pho village). Return to Bac Ha Town for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4/ Sunday: Bac Ha Sunday Market – Sapa (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Begin your day with breakfast before embarking on a direct drive to Can Cau market. Within 30 minutes, arrive at Can Cau, a small market nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains, just 7 km from the China border. This market vividly showcases the traditional cultural richness of the minorities inhabiting remote mountainous areas in Vietnam. Witness the vibrant display of ethnic boys and girls adorned in colorful costumes that mirror the diverse hues of the mountains. The market serves as a meeting ground for individuals hoping to find their life partners, fostering exchanges and conversations between different ethnic groups over cups of wine available in the market. After exploring Can Cau Market, hop back in the car and journey toward Sapa. Along the way, take a moment to visit a Flower H’mong village before checking into your hotel in Sapa.
Day 5/Monday: Sapa – Y Linh Ho – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Hanoi (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Commence the day at 9:30 AM from your hotel in Sapa Town, heading down to Muong Hoa valley. The journey begins with a breathtaking panorama of the town and the valley from the main road. After covering 4 km on the main road, descend into the valley via small trails cutting through terrace rice fields, leading to Y Linh Ho hamlet—an intimate village of the Black Hmong people.
Follow the river from Y Linh Ho to reach Lao Chai village, offering an opportunity to visit local families and learn about their culture, traditional housing, and clothing-making techniques. Pause for a midday meal served in one of the local refreshment restaurants by the river.
In the afternoon, depart from Lao Chai, continuing to Ta Van village, home to the Giay people. Your guide will provide insights into their way of life, offering a chance to enjoy green tea and delve into the differences in culture among the neighboring hill tribes. After Ta Van, transfer to Noi Bai Airport. ***Tour concludes.
