Every year, thousands of travellers come to Ha Giang.

They stand on Ma Pi Leng Pass.
They take photos of the rice terraces.
They ride through endless mountain roads.

And then they go home.

But hidden beyond those famous viewpoints are hundreds of children whose lives rarely appear in travel brochures.

Children who walk several kilometres to school every day.

Children who grow up in villages where access to education, healthcare and even basic school supplies is still a daily challenge.

This August, we invite you to experience a different side of Ha Giang.

Not only as a traveller.

But as someone who becomes part of a story that will stay with this community for many years to come.

A School Built Together

Earlier this year, our team from Vietnam Local Adventures, together with our community initiative Vietnam Local Impact, travelled to Bach Son, a small mountain village in Northern Vietnam.

The classrooms we found were old, deteriorating and no longer safe for the children who studied there every day.

Instead of simply telling that story, we decided to do something about it.

Over the past several months, with the support of local businesses, international friends, volunteers and hundreds of generous donors, we have been building a brand-new school.

Brick by brick.

Wall by wall.

Now, after months of construction, the project is finally nearing completion.

On 29 August 2026, we will officially hand over the school to the children.

And we’d love you to be there with us.

Be Part of the Day, Not Just a Visitor

One of the most meaningful parts of this journey happens before the ceremony even begins.

On the morning of 29 August, there will be plenty to do as we prepare to welcome over 200 children from the surrounding mountain villages.

Rather than simply watching from the sidelines, we invite you to become part of the experience.

Our team will be busy preparing thousands of small details, and if you’d like, you’re welcome to lend a hand.

You might help us:

• Organise and pack school supplies and gifts.
• Prepare donation packages for each child.
• Help set up lunch and dining areas.
• Serve meals to the children and their families.
• Arrange clothing, books and learning materials.
• Welcome the children as they arrive.
• Capture meaningful moments or simply spend time talking and playing with the kids.

There is no obligation to participate.

Some guests may simply wish to observe and enjoy the celebration, while others may enjoy getting involved behind the scenes.

Every helping hand allows our team to spend more time with the children and helps the day run more smoothly.

By the end of the ceremony, you’ll realise you weren’t just attending an event.

You became part of making it happen.

Bach Son School Inauguration

• Travel to Bach Son Village
• Official school handover ceremony
• Gift distribution
• Medical outreach programme
• Community celebration with approximately 200 children
• Visit Thon Tha Village, visiting waterfall
• Overnight at a traditional Tay homestay

30 August

Ha Giang – Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Pho Cao – Sung La – Dong Van

Experience the famous mountain passes, Hmong villages and Dong Van Ancient Town before spending the evening exploring one of Vietnam’s oldest mountain towns.

31 August

Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que River – Du Gia

Cruise along the emerald Nho Que River beneath the spectacular Tu San Canyon before continuing to the peaceful village of Du Gia.

1 September

Du Gia – Lung Tam – Ha Giang – Hanoi

Visit traditional weaving villages and beautiful valleys before returning to Hanoi in the evening.
