Commence our journey from the hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter at 7:00 AM, heading towards Ha Giang. A local restaurant will host our lunch. Upon reaching Ha Giang in the mid-afternoon, we’ll kick off our trek to a Tay ethnic village after a brief rest.
This village, predominantly inhabited by the Tay ethnic minority, comprises approximately 100 households. Descend along the village path for an hour, making our initial stop at a Tay ethnic house. Allocate 30 minutes to explore their traditional dwelling, customs, and traditions.
Our trek continues uphill for approximately two hours, traversing through pristine forests, tea plantations, and terraced paddy fields. We will reach a village of the Black Dzao, nestled along the hillside. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route before reaching the Black Dzao village.
In the afternoon, we persist in ascending for another 3.5 hours before arriving at the Dao “Ao dai” village. Dao men’s attire comprises trousers and short vests, while women’s attire is more varied, often adorned with numerous traditional motifs. A distinctive bonnet, crafted from black and red material with embroidered edges and embellished with colored tassels and small coins, is also worn. Take a brief walk before having dinner at a local home.

Following breakfast served at a local residence, embark on a descent for approximately half an hour from the Dzao village to a Nung’s village, where both the Nung and Dzao communities coexist. The Nung, constituting the seventh-largest ethnic minority group in Vietnam with a population exceeding 700,000, are primarily situated in Cao Bang and Lang Son provinces, along with settlements in parts of Ha Giang province.
Continue the ascent for about three hours until reaching a summit pass. Upon reaching the top around 12:30 PM, take a break to savor our picnic lunch while marveling at the surrounding scenery, including the enchanting terraced rice fields, Dzao “Ao dai” tea plantations, and the La Chi ethnic community.
