Itinerary Details
Night 01: Hanoi – Tram Tau (no meals) (250km by car ~5,5hrs)
Day 1: Tram Tau – Cong Village (1,300m) – Dinosaur Backbone Mountain – Camping Site (2,550m)
We’ll start the day around 8:00 am with a hearty breakfast before hopping into a car or motorbike for the short ride to Ta Xua village, just 7 km away. By 8:30 am, we’ll arrive at our porter’s house, where we’ll gather our gear and prepare for the trek ahead.
The first part of the trail is a bit challenging, with a steep and muddy slope that will test your stamina. But after about 4.5 km (around 2.5-3 hours), the trail becomes much more manageable. During this stretch, we’ll reach the famous Turtle Head Rock — a great spot for a break. Lunch will be served at Hut 1, located at 2,400 meters.
In the afternoon, we’ll take on the Dinosaur Backbone Mountain — the most exciting and demanding part of the trek. Expect steep rock climbs, narrow pathways, deep cliffs, and strong winds as we make our way along this rocky ridge, which truly feels like walking along the backbone of a dinosaur.
By 3:00-4:00 pm, we’ll reach Camping Site 2 at 2,550 meters. After settling in, our porter will prepare a delicious meal for us. You’ll have time to relax and soak in the tranquil jungle atmosphere before we retire for the night in a cozy wooden hut.
Trekking time: ~6 hours
Distance: ~7 km
Elevation gain: From 1,100m to 2,550m
Day 2: Magic Moss Forest & Ta Xua Peak
Rise and shine at 6:00 am! After a filling breakfast, we’ll get ready for another day of adventure. If you’re up for it, don’t miss the chance to catch the sunrise from the hut — it’s a beautiful way to start the day.
By 7:00 am, we’ll hit the trail again, heading through the enchanting Magic Moss Forest. It’s like something out of a dream, with ancient trees draped in moss and a mist that hangs in the air all year round. Feel free to take your time here — snap some photos, soak in the atmosphere, and let the beauty of nature take over. The path is much gentler today, so it’s a bit easier to walk.
After about 2 hours and 4 km, we’ll reach the summit of Ta Xua Peak, standing proudly at 2,865 meters. Take a moment to enjoy the panoramic views — it’s truly an unforgettable sight.
We’ll head back to the hut for lunch, resting up before our afternoon descent. After lunch, we’ll cross the Dinosaur Backbone Mountain once more. It’s a bit of a challenge, but the breathtaking views make it totally worth it. It will take us around 1.5 to 2 hours to get through.
By 4:00-5:00 pm, we’ll be back at the village. If you’re feeling tired, no worries — you can hop on a motorbike taxi from the Apple Tree Hut to make the journey back a bit easier (for an extra 250,000 VND per bike).
Once we return to Tram Tau, we’ll have a relaxing dinner together. If you want to unwind further, you can enjoy a hot spring or herbal bath at the homestay (additional fees apply, not included in the tour). It’s the perfect way to end the day, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated!
