Itinerary Details
Day 1: Hanoi – Ha Giang – Bac Sum Pass – Quan Ba. Overnight at a homestay in Quan Ba (B/L/D)
Morning Activities:
Your adventure begins at 7:30 AM as our guide and driver pick you up from your Hanoi hotel. We’ll head towards Ha Giang, the northern gem of Vietnam, renowned for its stunning mountain landscapes, terraced rice fields, and seasonal blooms. Along the way, pass through Viet Tri, Tuyen Quang, or Thai Nguyen provinces, enjoying the changing scenery. Stop for a delicious local lunch at a food stall before continuing the journey.
Afternoon & Evening Activities:
In Ha Giang, we’ll visit a Shan Tuyet Tea house to learn how locals craft their renowned tea—a fascinating insight into their daily lives. Our guide will also handle the permit required to explore this enchanting region.
As we travel, take in breathtaking mountain views, winding roads, and picturesque valleys. A visit to Khuoi My Hamlet in Phuong Do Commune offers a glimpse of unique moss-covered houses, a rare and beautiful architectural tradition found only here.
The journey continues through Bac Sum Pass, a windy road with spectacular mountain views, before arriving in Quan Ba. Here, stop at Heaven’s Gate and the Twin Mountains, where panoramic views will leave you in awe.
Finally, arrive at Nam Dam Village and check into your shared homestay. Enjoy a hearty dinner with a local family, sharing stories and learning about their culture and way of life. Rest in the peaceful surroundings of this charming village, ready for the adventures ahead.
Day 2: Quan Ba (Heaven Gate) – Yen Minh
Overnight at a homestay in Yen Minh (B/L/D)

Start your day by soaking in the peaceful village vibes of Nam Dam. Take a morning stroll to experience local life up close, greeting the friendly villagers as they go about their day. After enjoying a homemade breakfast with your host family, it’s time to hit the road towards Yen Minh.
Along the way, stop at Lung Tam Village and Valley, known for its breathtaking views and traditional brocade weaving. This scenic route, filled with winding roads and dramatic passes, is an adventure in itself. A roadside lunch offers a chance to relax and refuel before continuing your journey.
Afternoon & Evening Activities:
The next stop is Du Gia Village, a hidden gem with a serene atmosphere and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Take your time to explore and enjoy the tranquility before heading onward to Yen Minh.
Once in Yen Minh, check in at a cozy homestay where you’ll share a hearty dinner with your host family. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn about their traditions, and hear stories of life in this remote part of Vietnam. End the day with a good night’s rest, ready for the adventures to come.
Day 3: Yen Minh – Tham Ma Pass – Dong Van Rock Plateau – Lung Cu Flag Tower – Lo Lo Chai Village
Overnight in Lo Lo Chai Village (B/L/D)

Wake up to the serene charm of Yen Minh and enjoy the tranquil countryside life before a homestyle breakfast at the homestay. If your visit coincides with the local Pho Cao market day (according to the lunar calendar’s Dragon or Dog dates), you’ll spend two hours exploring this bustling market where ethnic Hmong, Dzao, and Lo Lo people gather to trade goods and stories. If not, you’ll still marvel at the landscapes of Sung La Valley, dotted with ancient Hmong houses and vibrant ethnic communities.
The journey continues with a scenic drive through Tham Ma Pass, offering stunning views and a chance to capture candid shots of Hmong children in their mountain village. Stop by the historical Hmong King’s Palace, a striking remnant of the region’s opium-trading past, where you’ll uncover fascinating stories of power and heritage.
Lunch: Savor a delicious local meal before diving into the next leg of your adventure.
Afternoon Activities:
Explore the rugged beauty of Dong Van Rock Plateau, a UNESCO-recognized geopark with its unique geological features and diverse ecosystem. Depending on the season, you may also visit the Tam Giac Mach Flower Garden, famous for its delicate buckwheat blossoms, a Ha Giang specialty in November.
Next, ascend to the Lung Cu Flag Tower, perched 1,700 meters above sea level, where you’ll stand at Vietnam’s northernmost point and enjoy breathtaking views of the borderlands.

Day 4: Dong Van Sunday Market – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que River – Meo Vac – Bao Lac. Overnight in Bao Lac Homestay (B/L/D)

Start your day by soaking up the peaceful atmosphere of Dong Van town in the early hours. After a hearty breakfast at a local restaurant, head straight to the vibrant Dong Van Sunday Market. This is a fantastic opportunity to witness the bustling life of the local ethnic communities as they trade goods, food, and handicrafts.
From there, take a short drive to Thien Huong Ancient Village, located just 7km from Dong Van. This serene village is a step back in time, untouched by modern influences. Wander through its tranquil paths, surrounded by lush greenery and traditional houses, for an authentic glimpse of hill tribe life.
Next, gear up for the unforgettable drive along Ma Pi Leng Pass. Carved into the side of a towering cliff, this road offers jaw-dropping views of the Nho Que River snaking through a dramatic gorge below, with limestone peaks rising above like sentinels. Along the way, you’ll visit a Hmong village nestled in this surreal landscape, where every drop of water and patch of arable land is cherished.
Take a scenic boat trip on the Nho Que River if conditions allow, gliding through the heart of this breathtaking natural wonder.
Lunch: Enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant, with time to reflect on the incredible sights of the morning.
Afternoon & Evening Activities:
Continue your journey, winding through the rugged beauty of Ha Giang’s mountainous roads as you make your way to Cao Bang Province. Along the way, you’ll pass through picturesque landscapes and charming local hamlets.
Arrive in Bao Lac and check in at your cozy homestay. Share a delightful dinner with your host family, learning about their traditions and way of life. The evening is yours to relax, unwind, or chat with the family for a richer cultural experience.
Special Note:
If your visit coincides with one of Ha Giang’s unique “Lui” markets or other local markets (held every 6 days), you’ll have a chance to explore these cultural treasures. From Pho Cao to Lung Phin and Sa Phin markets, each offers its own slice of vibrant ethnic life. Don’t forget to ask your guide for the schedule if you’re curious!
Day 5: Bao Lac – Ma Phuc Pass – God Eye Mountain – Phong Nam Valley – Gioc Sau – Ban Gioc
Overnight near Ban Gioc Waterfall (B/L/D)
Morning Activities:
Start your day with a home-cooked breakfast at the homestay, then gear up for a day packed with breathtaking landscapes as you head towards Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the most iconic natural wonders in northern Vietnam.
Begin the journey with a scenic drive through Ma Phuc Pass, known for its dramatic twists and turns, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. This three-and-a-half-hour ride will take you through some of the most spectacular stretches of road in the region.
Next, stop at Nui Thung, also known as God Eye Mountain. Its giant natural “eye” carved into the mountainside makes for an unforgettable sight and a perfect photo opportunity. Take a moment here to soak in the serene beauty of the landscape before continuing your journey. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the fresh mountain air.
Afternoon & Evening Activities:
After lunch, visit the tranquil Phong Nam Valley in Trung Khanh. This hidden gem offers lush greenery, peaceful farmlands, and an authentic glimpse into rural life.

This natural wonder, one of the largest in Vietnam, is a photographer’s dream! Hop on a bamboo raft to get up close to the cascading waters, where the mist creates a magical atmosphere. Snap those perfect shots and soak in the grandeur of this iconic spot.
Next, explore the mesmerizing Nguom Ngao Cave, a hidden gem filled with stunning rock formations that seem almost otherworldly. Wander through the first section of this impressive cave, marveling at the intricate stalactites and stalagmites that have taken centuries to form. If you prefer to skip the cave, no problem—you can enjoy more time relaxing by the waterfall.
Afternoon & Evening Activities:
After your morning adventures, begin the scenic drive back to Hanoi. On the way, take a break in Lang Son for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, where you can savor regional specialties one last time.
The journey back to Hanoi will take about five hours, offering you time to reflect on the incredible sights and experiences of the past week. Arrive at your hotel in Hanoi around 7:00 PM, full of unforgettable memories and stories to share about your journey through the stunning landscapes of northern Vietnam.
