Day 1: Hanoi to Thong Nguyen – A Scenic Journey to the Heart of Ha Giang
Your adventure begins with a cozy pick-up from your hotel in Hanoi, where our guide and driver will whisk you away on a scenic drive to Ha Giang. After a few hours on the road, you’ll arrive in Thong Nguyen, a peaceful commune in Hoang Su Phi district, just in time for the afternoon. Here, you’ll have a short break to stretch your legs before embarking on a light trek. As you wander through the lush landscapes, you’ll make your way to Nam Hong Village, a small mountain hamlet nestled near Man Ta Pan. Along the way, you’ll get the chance to meet the local Red Dao ethnic people, who are known for their warm hospitality. Finally, you’ll check into your bungalow, ready to unwind and enjoy the stunning surroundings.
Day 2: Thong Nguyen – Ban Phung – Thon Tha – A Day of Trekking and Cultural Discovery
After a hearty breakfast, get ready for a short but scenic trek from Nam Hong to Lang Giang. As you walk, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking rice terraces, many of them being harvested, offering you a true glimpse of local life. The journey will lead you through lush fields and quiet paths before reaching Ban Phung village, where you’ll be mesmerized by the stunning terraced landscapes that seem to stretch endlessly. After a long hike, it’s time to relax and enjoy a delicious lunch in this tranquil countryside setting.
Next, you’ll hop back into your private car and head to Thon Tha village. Upon arrival, check into your accommodation—either a cozy private bungalow or a shared homestay (depending on availability). Tonight, you’ll experience the warm hospitality of the Tay people as you settle into a traditional stilt house, complete with a Western-style toilet and hot shower. It’s a day filled with adventure and cultural immersion, offering you a perfect taste of rural life in the mountains.
Day 3: Thon Tha – Ma Pi Leng – Dong Van – A Day of Adventure and Stunning Views
Get ready for a day full of surprises and unforgettable experiences! After a delicious breakfast and heartfelt goodbyes to your lovely hosts, your adventure continues. Today, you’ll be driving along what’s known as the “Happiness Road,” and trust me, it lives up to its name. Your guide will share the fascinating legend of the Quan Ba Twin Mountains and Heaven’s Gate, adding a magical touch to your journey.
Your first stop will be at Lung Tam village, where you’ll visit a local embroidery cooperative. Here, the women of the village work together to create beautiful hemp clothes and various handmade products. It’s a perfect opportunity to witness traditional craftsmanship in action.
Then, get ready to be awestruck by the incredible views as you approach Meo Vac and the famous Ma Pi Leng Pass. Known as one of the most spectacular drives in Vietnam, the pass offers jaw-dropping vistas of towering mountains and lush valleys. If time allows, your guide will take you on a short trek along the “Sky Path” for an even more stunning panoramic view of this breathtaking landscape.
In the evening, you’ll check into your hotel in Dong Van, where you can rest and reflect on a day filled with adventure, beauty, and local culture.
Day 4: Dong Van – Lung Cu – H’mong King Palace – Nam Dam – A Day of Heritage and Culture
Today promises to be another exciting day, packed with history, culture, and stunning landscapes. After checking out of your accommodation, we’ll kick off the day with a visit to Lung Cu Flag Tower. Perched on top of Dragon Mountain at nearly 1,700 meters above sea level, this towering flagpole marks the northernmost point of Vietnam and symbolizes the country’s sovereignty. The views from the top are truly magnificent—stretching across vast green valleys and rolling mountains.
As we continue our journey, we’ll stop by the H’mong King’s Palace, a striking historical site that once housed a royal family during the French colonial era. You’ll also get a chance to explore Sung La, a peaceful Flower H’mong village that became famous as the backdrop for the movie Pao’s Story.
If it’s Sunday, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Dong Van Sunday Market, where people from over five different ethnic groups (H’mong, Dao, Tay, Kinh, Nung) gather to buy and sell local goods. It’s a lively and colorful scene, with everyone dressed in traditional clothing and accessories, and there’s always plenty of rice wine to share with the locals.
In the evening, we’ll make our way to Nam Dam village, where you’ll experience the warmth of a Dao homestay. This quiet, remote village is the perfect place to end a day full of adventure and cultural discovery.
Day 5: Nam Dam – Lung Khuy Cave – Hanoi – A Last Adventure
After a peaceful breakfast in the Dao village of Nam Dam, we’re setting off for one final adventure to Lung Khuy Cave. Discovered only recently in 2015 and opened for visitors in 2016, this cave is a hidden gem in Ha Giang. A short 2km walk will lead you to its entrance, where you’ll be amazed by thousands of sparkling stalactites and stalagmites, creating a magical underground world. The journey to the cave itself offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape—truly a must-see before we leave.
As we make our way back to Hanoi, we’ll stop for a delicious Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant, savoring the flavors of the region one last time. Afterward, we’ll continue our drive, arriving in Hanoi by the late afternoon. It’s the perfect end to an unforgettable journey through one of Vietnam’s most stunning and culturally rich regions.
